Chid benefit

I'm part way through a remortgage with Nationwide, everything has been agreed in principle and I've sent off payslips etc which support everything. The next stage is valuation which is being held up slightly as they want evidence of child benefit entitlement, which for a start seems slightly mad as if we couldn't afford the mortgage based on getting or not getting it for one child then we'd have much bigger issues to worry about!

Anyway, I only received one letter when he was born which I have kept and sent to them as evidence. This doesn't appear to have been sufficient but I don't actually have anything else! Apparently HMRC won't issue statements of entitlement - any idea of what they actually want? I can give them the reference number no problem

Did you enter the child benefit as income on the application?

If you did, you'll be asked to prove it.

You tend to find a broker won't enter income if it isn't needed to make the amount you want to borrow affordable.

Hence, most of our applications ask for only one payslip, as all we use is basic salary when we can.

Receipt of child benefit is acceptable, provided neither applicant earns over £50k and can be evidenced with the latest month's bank statement or award letter (all pages required and dated within last 12 months).

Even if an applicant earns over £50k a portion of the entitlement will be received, tapered down to zero entitlement at £60k.

It was my own stupidity in the application, I saw a box so I filled it in... Oh well, bank statement it is as they don't send you letters annually, as I said I've only ever received one which was a few weeks after he was born! I (wrongly) just imagined that the CHB number combined with the payslips would be enough with the original letter as back up.

I know that, you know that.

    Nationwide criteria says;-

"Child Benefit (accepted provided neither applicant's total income is greater than £50,000."

So what we think is moot, if the lender chooses not to accept it in such circumstances.
