Dormant accounts - claiming the money back. Anyone been successful?

I remember as a child having 2 savings accounts, for reasons I won't go into they ended up dormant. I've just filled out the forms to track those accounts and hopefully get my money back (including interest). Anyone else done this?

I work in a building society so if people come to us directly then we trace the account and return the funds to the customer. Did you use the account tracing service or go direct to the financial provider directly? So long as the accounts did actually have money in them when they were made dormant and there is sufficient evidence to show the accounts belong to you then the money should be returned. Ive not seen anyone not get their money back if it is theirs.

To start the process, ask at the financial provider to trace the accounts for you (this can take time so you may not get all the info you require after a quick visit to a branch) or ask for information on the account tracing service - ive forgotten what they are called though! If you go to the branch it really help to have as much information about the accounts as possible, such as any statements, account numbers, passbooks, all your previous addresses etc.
