Capital One Default wrong address

Hi everyone I am a new member and I was hoping I could get some advice on a few different financial matters with regards to defaults etc.
I took out a capital one credit card in 2012 and I had to leave a deposit of £100 to get the credit card. I thought it would be a good idea to help build my credit up. In the summer of 2012 I moved address and sent capital one a letter to that effect. I was using their online service to pay my balance each month so didnt think there was a problem.
Then for about 2 months I was otherwise occupied (family member very ill) and lost track of the payments and when I tried to log back in to my account it said online account was suspended.
At the end of last year I applied for a copy of my credit report and found they had put a default on my account. I would like to contest the default but don't know how to, they have also sold the debt to Lowell Portfolio.
My grounds are:
1) I never received a default notice as they hadn't updated their systems with my new address.
2) I couldn't clear the balance off as they stopped access to my account.
3) I was still getting e-statements via email long after the default had been placed on my record.
How should I go about this. Do you think a letter explaining everything with an offer to clear the balance will result in them aggreeing to remove the default?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

but you did have online access, and had known a payment was due each month. For them to sell it on it was more that 2 monthsDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

You would need to prove you sent the letter, which will be difficult.
Send them a SAR, see what comes back.
