Mothers Affairs - Annual Tax Return

I have been asked to take a look over my mothers affairs and have to visit her shortly to collate the actual data. However from a telephone conversation, I have been advised that she has:
State Pension (88 year old)
Late husbands private pension: £4800pa (taxed at source I understand)
Her private pension: £2200pa
Savings across 4 accounts: £100k
I know this is a fairly generic question, but based on the above, would you expect her to be completing an annual tax return? She has not completed one in the last 15 or so years.

No.
She only needs to complete a tax return if HMRC ask for one.0 -
Depending on her State Pension, it's possible she's been paying too much tax (eg late husband's pp, 10% savings tax on first £2.8k ish interest). If so, look up R40 for HMRC refund.0

Hi
I should have mentioned that she believes her state pension is £167pw.
So she should be able to claim the 10% on savings.0 -
See http://taxaid.org.uk/guides/information/rental-income-savings-income-and-pensioner-issues/taxation-of-savings/the-10-starting-rate-for-savings-income
In view of your mother's age, her tax free allowance is £10660?
Your mother's income is more than £15,500 even before taking into account her savings income?
