And I'm shocked (yes it's possible) - no one has added to this...

    More grist for the mill...

I was on holiday, else I would have done ;). I can only echo what Maria McCaffery says: it's plainly wrong. Operators do of course get a subsidy (the Renewables Obligation Certificate) but you get one ROC per MWh generated. If as a developer, you choose to build a wind farm in a not-very-windy-place, then you won't get much subsidy and the project probably won't be economic. End of (not very interesting) story.

global warming - it would take a millenia to find out
    climate change - happening now
  • Yes global warming is happening and IMO its largely man made. A number of the posts in this thread have elegantly explained why.

Although I commend Martin Lewis for this site and its money saving tips ( I got £140 back from NatWest last year for inflated mortgage fees), I think it goes a bit over board on its consumerism encouraging us to spend by getting 0% credit cards, bogof offers, cheap £10 flights etc etc. Climate change is partly caused by excessive consumption and one way we can all help is only buying what we genuinely need. This also saves you cash. Air travel also is a major factor and us all getting on £10 flights is only going to make matters worse.

So come on Martin, how about publicising some tips on personal mitigation of climate change which will also save cash and the planet. As Tesco says, every little helps even for the planet.....

Firstly, this forum does have a 'green and ethical moneysaving' board, and those who want to save money but be green can discuss things there.

Secondly, it simply isn't the ethos of this site. It's about collectively sharing views and advice and finding ways of not unnecessarily putting money into the pockets of large companies. Cheap things aren't necessarily more harmful to the enviroment than expensive ones.

  • 'Global warming' is a natural phenomena. Ice age followed by warmer period. It is only now that we have the technology to measure these rises in temperature on a global scale.
The only reason this has become a political issue is because the governments worldwide realised that it's a great way to tax the population for the more mundane day to day activities.
It's scare tactics at its worst.

The reason it has become a political issue is because the scientists have, quite rightly, made it so. Their measurements indicate that the quantity of CO2 is rising faster than EVER before. It may not, yet, be as high as it has ever been in the past but if you've seen the graph you'll wonder how we can avoid it.
The only thing that is constant is change.

Back in the Indian Summer of 2007 most people did not believe the world economy could nose dive in 24 months.
I could see trouble coming but it has turned out a whole lot worse than I ever expected it to be. Even though I was an early member of "the nutters" group, now begrudgingly referred to as "doom and gloom" by the rest of the forum.

Back in 1918, when there really was a serious out break of ("Spanish") flu, the world had a population of 1.5 billion.

For those of you not sure of the present situation of world population and CO2 increase, I recommend "breathingearth" a web site with nothing like the impact of UTube, Wikipedia, or the BBC, but an interesting place to see the coming "correction" to world population developing.
