Getting a mortgage when you've had cancer?

hi

A friend of mine had cancer and is now in remission. He has been cancer free for 5 years. He now wants to buy a house and is really, really struggling to get a mortgage. Bank and building societies have not been very helpful. They will only take his girlfriend's salary into consideration. Can anyone help or give recommendations

Thanks

if he has income it shouldn't be an issue - not even any need to tell the lender. Life insurance is where he will struggle.
