Advice re Additional money received for 1 minth

Hi,

I'm looking for some advice.
This month my tax code was changed to NT and as a result I am £320 better off.
I've contacted the OR and asked if I could keep it as I am in a negative position of £100 per month ( i.e no money for clothes, haircuts or home insurance) and was made BR in September so haven't been able to buy any clothes unless absolutely necessary etc.
She has replied and has said I can keep £100 but need to pay over the remaining£220.
Can I challenge this or request to keep more as I could really do with being able to buy my partner and step daughter some new clothes and £100 won't go far. Or do I just have to accept it?

Thanks

Why did the tax code change? Is it correct? Is this to do with the bankruptcy where they change the tax code but you have to then pay the tax directly? I'd want to be sure how it had come about before any decisions were made about it.
I can't help with the OR's rules though, sorry. Maybe someone else will know more?

If you went BR in September then your NT code should go back to a normal code in April so I'm surprised they have applied it so late. The OR's collector should be in touch soon to arrange for you to pay the 'extra' to them (usually Clarke Willmott) To be honest - I think you have done well being allowed to keep any of it! Do not keep more than you have been told you can. Did you agree figures on the SOA with the OR during your interview? You can negotiate on the figures with the OR but if you have already signed the IPA agreement it might be more difficult.

I won't keep my extra the reason I'm asking is if the tax code had changed say in November I would have been allowed to keep £100 per month of it towards living costs so would have had an extra £500 Tha Soa was agreed with the OR who advised that I was £100 short a month. but as it only changed in March they are saying I can only keep £100.
I just want to know if it is worth questioning if I can keep more or not.
I may be lucky to be allowed to keep any but the OR herself pointed out I need things like clothes and haircuts which is what we don't hve at the moment.

    Thanks

OK - so with that extra detail - yes, it may be possible to speak to the OR to see if you are able to keep the £100 for the months since your SOA was determined.
