Why do you think it will fall off your credit files in 2016 then?

Because a default lasts for 6years after the date of first default.

Default will drop off you say but when I mentioned CCJ you said you had offered to pay.
Have you made any repayments since the default?

No, it's something that was completely forgotten about.

In short, I was going away with the Army, so put my mother as 3rd party on the account and changed the address to my mothers, they failed to change the address on their system.

So by the time I'd gone away, come back, got squared away it was all forgotten about.

Until we tried to apply for a mortgage last year and got refused.
Checked both credit records and no problems at all, bank couldn't understand it either, its only when I discovered an address was missing that it all then popped up, after adding the address and dates.

And yes, I've offered to pay.

For anyone that's interested, I called and made an offer of 50%, which was rejected so didn't think I'd have much luck, however add £350 to that and they accepted it!

Payment has gone through and account has been confirmed as settled and completed.

Cross the LloydsHBOS off your list of potential lenders to approach for a mortgage. As they'll be unlikely to forget. A side effect of partial settlements.
