Aegon Pension Statement Error

Over the last couple of months I've been consolidating a number of personal pensions into a SIPP with Hargreaves Lansdown.

One of my pensions is with Aegon. I have seven years of statements all of which show that the fund value and the transfer value are the same. But after sending the form off to HL I got a call from HL saying that Aegon wanted to confirm that I understood the current valuations. He told me that the FV was £25,000 but the TV was only £20,000. I put the transfer on hold and investigated further.

Having talked it through with Aegon, their story is that my pension statements for the last seven years have been wrong. And the problem wasn't discovered until I initiated the transfer.

I'm not happy with this explanation and I've asked them to investigate further. Today they've told me that in the last twelve months they've had one other example of this which was also discovered when the customer wanted to transfer the fund to another provider.

As a software engineer, I know that if a couple of customers are tripping over this problem then there's a good chance that it's affecting many other people.

I wanted to know if anyone else has heard of anyone having a similar statement with an Aegon pension. And I guess I'd like to suggest that anyone with an Aegon pension should get in touch with them and double-check that their statements are accurate.

Cheers,

Dave...
