is omacor or a similar med prescribed?

I am taking Omacor and few other meds. I now take them from abroad, so I wonder how much it will cost to get them in UK. Will the whole month meds I get cost the 8 pound fee for a prescription? Or it will be more?

    Each prescribed medicine costs £8.20.

Even if you only have two prescriptions a month, a prescription prepayment certificate can save a lot of money.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

    I take 4 medicines, I will have to pay 4x8.20 = 32.8 each month?

is it for any quantity of each medicine, or if I take eg. 4 capsules, I will have to pay more?

Yes, each prescribed med costs £8.20 irrespective of quantity or costs.

As said, if the number of prescriptions are high then pre-paid is better as it gives you unlimited prescriptions for the price.

GPs vary on how much they will prescribe per prescription. My old GP was good in that for a med your stable on and have been on for years and will be on for years more they'd give you 3-6 months supply at a time. My new GP will only give you 1 months supply per prescription. Either way it costs you £8.20

Similarly some nice GPs will give you a private prescription for cheap meds where the cost is below £8.20 as some pharmacists will let you know if its an over the counter item that can be purchased for cheaper but for other things some are lazy and just do the NHS prescription thing with its fixed cost.

So if you went and bought Omacor on a private prescription it would cost you around £21.75 for a month.

Strikes me that if a GP thinks you need this medication £8.20 is a bargain. If you have necessary prescribed meds the 12 month price of £104 for a PPC seems a very good deal.

Just be grateful you don't live in North America!

My Pantoloc is $2/tablet. Add in the pharmacy fee of anywhere from $8-14 per prescription and a month can easily cost $75.

I'm fortunate we have private drug coverage that pays 80% of my drug costs.
