Single name application but joint names on deeds

Hi
I am looking to apply for a mortgage solely in my name despite being married (my wife lives and works in Italy, has never lived in the UK and will not immediately be moving into the property once it is bought, hence applying solely in my name).
However, I would like my wife to be a joint owner of the property.
How would this work? My wife has an excellent credit history in Italy but no credit history in the UK having never been resident. Would lenders accept an overseas resident being named on the mortgage? And if not, would it be problematic to add her name to the deeds but not be part of the mortgage application.
I am a first time buyer and my wife's income does not need to be included to meet the affordability checks for a number of lenders we have been looking at.
Thank you
Al

Your wife cannot be named on the property deeds without being named on the mortgage. There's no getting around this.
If she's not a UK resident then a joint mortgage application will be declined.0 -
Even if she isn't on the deeds, being your wife means it'll be hers too anyway.0
