When is the Co-op not the Co-op (food stores)?

I used to avoid the Co-Op. Now I find it a good pop-in store for top-up shopping as it is the only supermarket in the village where we live. The shop is terribly cramped but does carry most of the national deals - it also knocks down prices quite substantially towards closing time, yielding some great bargains and it regularly spews out money-off vouchers at the till, encouraging re-visits.

Unlike any of its competitors, the money-off vouchers are attractive in that you don't have to spend, twenty, thirty or forty pounds to get money off. In our store, they are often £1 off £10 and even £1 off £5 which I always use. They're great for local older folk who shouldn't have to buy large sizes or opt for multiple purchase deals when their circumstances don't allow.... so three cheers for the Co-op for that.

I'm a great fan of shopping around and, when in town, typically go from store to store to pick off the bargains, yet since the nearest major town is a gallon of fuel away, it makes great economic sense to support the local Co-Op. Apart from the financial justification, if folk don't use it, they risk losing it.

do we really risk losing it? they are well over priced and not competitive in todays market...co op will risk losing it, while other stores will gain
