Multiple debt-collection agencies calling - help?

Hi all,
Came across this board while searching the net, so apologies for signing up and then asking for help straight away!
1. I had a call about two weeks ago from a number i didn't recognise asking me to confirm my details - I said, I can't confirm that as I don't know who or why they are calling.
The guy then proceeded to tell me the address they had listed (an old address) and asked me to confirm other details. When I asked what the call was about he said "a personal matter".
I said I can't confirm any details until I know who and why they are calling. At this point they hung up.
2. Received a text message a few days ago from BCW asking to call them with a reference number - I haven't.
3. Received a call today (which I missed). When I Googled the number there were posts saying that it may be CARS (sp?).
I don't know who they are calling on behalf of as they wouldn't say, so I can't call the company direct to resolve this issue. I have not had debt and am positive this isn't correct.
However, as I can't find out who they are calling on behalf of I can't do anything.
I am also concerned that they have an old, old address (which they gave me!!!) so if they were sending letters I may not get them? (I have seen the prove-it letter etc, but concerned I may not get the letters to reply to?)
What is the best way to proceed with this? It is a little disconcerting.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Either:
1. Ignore til they write to you. They have the ability to get your new address from your credit file. Annoying that you still get texts and calls from them.
2. Send them a written complaint about harassing you for a debt you do not believe is yours.:beer:0 -
BCW(Buchanan,Clark & wells) DCA, ignore them completly, unless, they put something in writing to you.
Texts and calls, are not legally valid methods of contacting you to repay a debt, they are on a fishing trip, hoping someone bites.
It may not even be you they are looking for, so unless you get a letter, addressed to yourself, give them the silent treatment, oh, and stay off the phone, never, ever phone a DCA.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Has anyone got an email address for Buchanan Clark & Wells as I wish to send them a 'notice before action' email regarding I will be taking them to court for harrasment on a debt that is not owed by me.

That would be pointless as the only legally recognised way to do this is in writing, not email, and not verbally.
