Just out of interest...

Our standard company working day is 7 1/2 hours with 1 hour unpaid lunch break.
If you select half a day's holiday on the HR system, it shows you should work 4.25 hours before leaving.
I was expecting it to be 3.75 hours as that's half of what you are paid for. In all previous workplaces, that's what it's been.

What do other companies do?

So you are in the office for 8.5 hours (7.5hr paid plus 1hr lunch) so a half day would be 4.25 hours with a 30 minute unpaid break that presumably you could take at the end to make the actual working time to be 3.75hr

II's calculation is correct. I don't know where you got 3.5 hours from, half of 7.5 hours is 3.75.

I would expect you to work 3.75 hours before leaving for the day . Do they not pay you for 4.25hours (ie 5/8 or so of the day)

Taking break time off the end of a shift would not be compliant with regulation.
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.

What regulation would that be then? No statutory break is due after working 3.75 hours anyway, so it would be entirely down to the employer's rules, if any.

Hubbys had a few half days lately, his employer for half day knocks the unpaid 30 min break off the scheduled time then halves that
So if he was scheduled 8-4, they'd call it 8-1530 for sake of scheduling holiday as he was paid for 7.5 hours of 8-4, then he finishes half way between 8 and 1530.
  • I get 230 hours a year holiday. The length of half a day depends on what time I decide to start and finish the other half of the day.
