However, things like this make me sad:

"Please un-tick here if you would not like to receive updates..."

Not content with making it simple, throw in a double negative there to make it confusing for people, who will then just un-subscribe if they got it wrong anyway!

    Freebies will always be abused.
Take a look at the Clydesdale/Yorkshire bank offer of "switch to us and we'll give you £150" - some people have made £2000+ from switching and seemingly abusing the spirit of the offer. Their answer is that they are meeting the terms required, which is true but surely morally wrong. CB/YB also feel the same as they have now changed the terms of the offer.

It's a shame when people have a mind-set that they are not doing anything wrong, when clearly, they are!

I didn't know about this bank offer abuse but sometimes I see things like this here in MSE - talking about "tricks" and "loopholes" and it annoys me to be honest

Anyway, thanks Sarah for the post!

Yup I just tried and the smallest message ever just flashed on the side of the screen for less than 10 seconds to say all the freebies had gone proper blink and you'll miss it speed!

Shame when people order multiples to take advantage but I suppose it's to be expected as people want to 'get the most out of' the companies!

Seems you need a different email and a different delivery address (eg work) to get multiple freebies, but I've successfully submitted 4 (one of each flavour!). Fingers crossed they all arrive - yum yum! :T
    Thus depriving others.

Whilst I agree with you about people who get multiples of samples when there were a limited number available, your example of the Clydesdale/Yorkshire Bank is spurious. The offer started with certain terms and conditions. These were then changed which allowed multiple accounts. In each case you either had to go into a branch or phone, and you would be questioned on what you would use the accounts for. It was an incentive pure and simple for Clydesdale/Yorkshire to gain a large number of accounts on their books, possibly for a proposed sale. The end date for the offer was subsequently extended, although the terms were then changed to one incentive per person.

So nobody has missed out on the Clydesdale/Yorkshire incentive. Follow the Terms and Conditions (which, when I did it was a switch plus a £1,000 into the account) and it was there for anyone. I did the switch, and had I liked the bank's website and so on, I would stay with them. In fact I don't, so I will be switching on when a new offer goes through. Not everyone can do these bank switches - it can affect your credit score; you usually need to have an account with direct debits to switch; and to have enough cash to deposit quite a bit of money.

Clydesdale and Yorkshire were very keen to have more people on their books - even cash slips I got from the ATMs were advertising and encouraging people to take the incentive. If it had been a numerically limited offer, then the conditions would have been changed very fast. The offer itself started in December 2014 and ran to some time in March.

It's a completely different scenario to people requesting multiple samples from a limited offer.

As for the morality: I switched many years back to the Co-operative Bank for their incentive, and stayed with them for years. Other bank accounts I have, have been done for the incentive. I have about 8 accounts now for various reasons. There is nothing immoral about it: the incentives are there to entice you in. It's completely moral, and makes good financial sense.

One of the one or two people who have receive a couple of thousands in incentives, has had an account with Yorkshire for 40 years. Don't you think that if Clydesdale/Yorkshire were unhappy with what was happening, they could have turned down people on the phone or in branch. Instead they opened these accounts knowing that people had multiple accounts. You had to justify these reasons, and the reasons were carefully noted by the bank staff.
