Hello folks,
I recently bought a Panasonic SD-2500 bread maker. I have a feeling it might not be what I'm looking for and would appreciate your views before sending it back.
I've heard it is really good, however, from the instruction manual it sounds as though if I want to make seeded wholemeal bread, I have to stand around waiting for ages to lob in the seeds/nuts/rasins etc.
As an example - I want a fresh seeded wholemeal loaf ready for me in the morning. The program takes 5 hours. Do I have to get up during the night to add seeds?! Also, is the delay only available on some programs? If so, if I started the thing before bed, I'd have to get up 5hrs later, in the middle of the night, to remove the bread from the maker!! Is this correct - or have I picked this up wrongly?
Same goes for making a seeded wholemeal loaf, so it is ready from my return from work in the evening. If I bung all the ingredients together in the morning, can I expect it to be ready by the time I get home?
The instructions state that the bread must be removed "immediately" after cooking - i.e. 5hrs after. And I understand that seeds, nuts, rasins etc have to be added mid-way through the process. If I start a program, I'm rarely going to be around a couple of hours then 5 hours later... so it doesn't seem too useful to me... but then again, I may have entirely the wrong end of the stick. Any help/guidance appreciated!
Thanks
Ian

You want the 2501 if you want it to automatically add the seeds.
Don't you find they get in your teeth though? I have never added seeds to my bread, and the automatic function remains unused.0 -
You can add seeds or nuts at the start and it doesn't make any difference.
It is only important with things like raisins that become too mushed up if they are put in early.
Im pretty sure all the panasonic programs have timers, but if you leave the loaf in the breadmaker too long all that happens is that it goes a bit soggy.0 -
I have a very old model (about 20 years!) - it too suggests adding seeds partway through. However, I just include a handful of seeds as part of my flour weight, and it's fine.
Mine states that the bread should be taken out within an hour of being cooked, and I've found that's fine too.
I would just experiment (and keep a couple of those part-baked loaves in the cupboard for back-up!)0
