Surfing in Northern Ireland

So I caved in and bought a surf board for the kids who have tried the sport out in the west. Now I've got to get them some action.
Portrush, Portstewart and Whiterocks have been recommended; these are quite a distance from us so I need to know when to take the kids out for a day.
Is there a rule of thumb for selecting surfing days/times? And can I use the weather reports as indicator? I've heard that there are surfing weather sites but that they're difficult to translate. The kids aren't doing to spend time reading up, and I just don't have the time.
Can anyone help me?

where are you based at ?
i thin some peple surf down by analong ... although if he kids are jst starting out any where with a bit of wave shoud do for now .... but if they really get bitten by the bug you should expect to spend a lot of time in the north west and around doegal.
also give surf mountain a call or some of the other surf shops and thy could point you in the right direction to get goingTHESE ARE THE GOOD OLD DAYS ……
..…JUST WAIT AND SEE0 -
I agree with Master Blaster. A little wave should do for a while. And be aware, sometimes you might have to paddle out quite far to catch a good wave. A local surf shop would be a good bet if you dont want to spend too much time reading the reports.Tengo que cambiar para seguir siendo la misma - I have to change to stay the same0
