Seriously though, it's always a good idea to research contribution limits and Carry Forward rules before making such a decision if you're going to DIY. Something the OP has learned the hard way unfortunately.

Absolutely - and that advice can extended to any form of DIY ....

Cheer up, OP. All you have to do is arrange to die before 75 and the money can go to your beneficiaries free of Inheritance Tax.
