Left over french bread

I need some help please. I have a cheese topped french stick left over from yesterday that I can't eat today. So tomorrow, I know it will be rock hard and rather than making breadcrumbs I wondered if anyone has any nice recipes that will use it up? I can't make bread pudding as it has cheese on it but I was thinking there might be a savoury bread pudding? I have eggs, cheese, bacon, onions, etc but no milk.

You could microwave it first then make into a pizza? I find that sticking bread in the microwave for even just a few seconds is enough to soften it slightlyThey have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson

Two options
Sprinkle it with water and refresh in the oven
If it's too far gone for that, slice it, dip the slices in beaten egg, and fry - French toast!0 -

FRENCH ANCHOVY TOAST
Serves 2
INGREDIENTS
1 clove of garlic
50g tin of anchovy fillets in olive oil
½ a French loaf of bread
METHOD
Peel the garlic, and crush it into a bowl.
Open the tin of anchovies, but don’t drain off the oil. Put both the anchovies and the olive oil into the bowl.
Mash it up until smooth.
Cut an even number of slices of the bread on the slant. Lightly toast them.
Spread the fish paste on one side.
Put them on a baking tray.
Cook in a preheated oven at 220°C, 425°F, gas mark 7 for 5 minutes.
ADDITIONS & ALTERNATIVES

Nigella makes a savoury bread and butter pudding using french stick and loads of cheese. Cant post a link from my phone tho, sorry0

A sort of cheese strada thingy. Mix beaten eggs, grated cheese, milk or cream, seasoning and herbs. Be generous with the cheese. Pour over sliced bread, leave till bread has soaked up most of the liquid then bake until brown and crispy on top.One life - your life - live it!0

Yum! I'm liking the sound of the strada ideas! Here is the Nigella version. Thanks so much everyone - will let you know what I make and how it goes! Think I'll have to go out tomorrow and get some milk or cream and then make it in the morning and then bake in the evening.0

I ended up making the Nigella three cheese and onion strata. It was very nice but next time I would serve it with a salad or baked beans as it was stodgy (we had it on it's own). Thanks for all of the other ideas - I always have left over bread and my freezer is full of breadcrumbs so it's nice to have some other things to try.0
