While grateful I seem to have received a P60 from an ex employer who I've haven't worked for since end of 2014, is that correct? the direct.gov site indicates it should apply to who you work for come the 5th April?
There may not have been a P45 to be fair I wouldn't have chased it and choose to fill in a P46 when starting the next job, I'm now worried I am a phantom employee somewhere! please can someone confirm I'm being stupid!

You didn't get a P45 but do have a P60 - so you were not "finished" as a leaver by that employer.
You are not a "phantom employee", simply an employee who has had no earnings since late 2014. Do the figures on the P60 match with your final payslip?
Did you mean to write that you chose (rather than choose) to fill in a P46? That is, have you actually begun work for another employer?
Get in touch with payroll who have issued the P60 so that they can clarify with HR. They were quick off the mark with sending the P60 so can probably sort it out efficiently.0 -

.
Thanks for responding, this is what I'm more concerned about
Yep started working for someone else (a recruitment agent) couple of months ago so that was who I am expecting my P60 from not an ex employer with an outsourced iffy payroll from what I could make of it, somewhat bemused as while it has come direct from the employer office, he would normally have been the type to ditch rather then sending so lucky yeah must get on to it I suppose!
I was just curious.
Thanks again for answering.
Lesson learnt I guess it's why you always chase the P45!0
