We have two payment periods in a month, my DH gets paid on the 15th so there are some bills that go out then and I get paid on the 28th so the remainder is taken out after that.

I write my expenditure everyday in an online balance account and on the 15th and add everything that will be paid until the 27th and then on the 28th I do everything that will be paid until the 14th. So then I'm clear about what's left until the next pay comes in.

I get paid monthly & mine are scattered, but I have a "bills" page for each month in my spreadsheet and carry the total onto my money page, so I can see a "real" figure after all the bills are paid - if that makes sense?
Makes sense to me - I do exactly the same thing :D
I find it helps loads with other expenses I can't pay up front, like fuel. I put around 50 quid's worth of diesel in a week and need to make sure I have enough money at the end of the month to do this so I can get to work. The spreadsheet is set up so that I can update spending on a daily basis and see how much I'll have left at the end of the month (or not as the case will more often be )
