Hi,
This is my first post on here just wanted to get some opinions on this quote I've received for £7,895:
Includes:- 12 Benq 330W
Solaredge Inverter
Owl Intuition h
Voltage Optimiser
20 x LED’s
Installation
QANW 10 year Warranty on Workmanship
EPC
MCS
Does this seem reasonable? I was interested in SunPower to begin with but they seem much more expensive, any opinions on SunPower vs BenQ?
Many thanks

Firstly, it would be good to understand why you have been quoted for BenQ and SolarEdge?
- Are you limited for space so can only fit 12 panels?
- Do you have shading issues or an install over more than 2 aspects for SolarEdge to be needed?
The price is slightly high and there are many posts on here which suggest that a voltage optimiser does not provide any benefit for domestic properties.
What returns have you been quoted by the company for feed in tariff and electricity savings?
Sorry for all the questions!0 -

As for price, it seems rather expensive if I'm honest.
Next, why solaredge? Do you have any shading issues...and I mean any, just 10-15% shading of 1 panel makes a difference so this part is important
Are you pushed for space on your roof?
Better start from the beginning, give your rough location, roof size(roughly), pitch and direction, shading.2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -
I do have shading unfortunately yes, estimated around 6%, and roof space is limited, can only just fit 12 panels!
Interesting you both say price seems high, what price should I be aiming for would you say?0 -
Considering that retail prices for the panels is £3k with a solaredge inverter with PO's(power optimisers) another £1k, add scaffold, mountings and wiring say £1k, then I'd say £6k-£6.5k is more of a reasonable price. Remember, those are retail, so you'd expect the installer to get those prices much lower.2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0

Welcome, and ditto to what others have said.
Also, BenQ 285Wp panels are about £100 cheaper than 330Wp panels. If you have to go down this route, then maybe better to save £1k+ have a smaller system.
But I'm more interested in the voltage optimiser and the 20 LED's. VO's are a waste of money in a domestic situation, and the LED's are worth ..... what ..... £100?
I'm suspicious that those items are thrown in so that the salesperson can talk about huge leccy savings of up to, up to, up to. They then take these overblown leccy savings and add 20 years of ridiculous energy inflation to show you how much money you'll make.
By year 20 you're probably saving £2k out of a £4k leccy bill. Does that sound even slightly realistic?
Sorry for the rant, fingers crossed you'll find much cheaper deals now you've arrived on here. For 12 285Wp panels and a SolarEdge set up, I reckon a price of about £5k seems doable when comparing to recent threads.
[Edit: allowing about £1k for the different panels, it looks like tunnel and I have guessed similar amounts. M.]

Thanks for the responses everyone, I think Mart you've hit nail on the head as salesman is quoting me £36000 return over the 20 years!
Think my final remaining questions are is it worth paying more for SunPower panels, if so how much?
Also any recommendations for installers in the Bristol area that could deliver at these prices?
Thanks again0 -
My figures are slightly different to Tunnel -
12 x Benq panels - £3600
SolarEdge - £1000
Other equipment (rail, hooks etc) - £500
Scaffold - £400
Fitting and installation - £1000
So I would suggest £6500 - 7000 would be a reasonable figure0 -

I thought the installers would pay £250 + 20% VAT which is how I arrived at the £3600 figure in total - maybe I am wrong!!0
