The great onslaught from/of Slugs

I believe that this year - after a mild winter - we are going to get a lot of slugs in our gardens
I was wondering what methods people had used to get rid of them - apart from slug pellets (which can harm hedgehogs) - I have used nematodes in the past - but these are expensive and cruel to the 'todes - so what else have you tried with success ?

I suggest you re-post on the Greenfingered Moneysaving board: this board is for renewable energy, recycling etc.
But good luck with the slugs: there's no easy answer.0
