Casual employee - no entitlement to holiday?

Hello,
Thanks in advance for any help. I have two jobs, one full time and one which guess would be a zero hours contract. I work as and when needed and I can turn down work if it's inconvenient etc. I usually work about 15-20 hours a month at this job.
When I got it they told me as a casual worker I would not accrue holiday. Surely this is incorrect? I thought all workers accrued holiday pro rata?
Thanks!

Is this for zero hour contract?
Zero hours contracts
Key points:
Zero hours contracts normally mean there is no obligation for employers to offer work, or for workers to accept it.
Most zero hours contracts will give staff 'worker' employment status.
Zero hours workers have the same employment rights as regular workers, although they may have breaks in their contracts, which affect rights that accrue over time.
Zero hours workers are entitled to annual leave, the National Minimum Wage and pay for work-related travel in the same way as regular workers.

However if you only work for them when you think it is convenient etc, it might be difficult to acrue holidays?ally.0 -
Oh I'm certainly not expecting to have holiday entitlement coming out of my ears but I've worked 80 hours since Christmas in this job and online it says that's 9ish hours of holiday. Naturally I wouldn't mind 9 hours pay holiday if I am entitled?0

that is wrong you should accrue by the hourThe futures bright the future is Ginger0

I'm hoping they were confused and meant I can't, for example, take a 'paid' week off as I have no working week. I'll speak to HR

You need to establish whether your contract of employment is as a casual worker or a zero hours contract (or indeed something else). What you describe doesn't really sound like casual work, but we can't know for sure unless you find out.0

Sorry would that make a difference? I'm literally like last port of call if all the other people can't cover it. So I'm like holiday cover etc and in working a little more now as someone has left. I just work as and when needed if it works for me as well. I do get the perks of staff such as free gym membership0

I didn't think you do - I just wasn't sure whether you are on zero hour contract
I don't know casual worker bit! ally.0 -
When I worked on a zero hour contract, there was a small premium paid instead of holiday leave accrual.
It was a tiny amount of money but receiving it meant I had no right to take annual leave.
You might want to check your contract and see what it says. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
I'm am a 'Temporary Worker' and very sad to say, am back to no idea whether I'll be paid for bank holidays but that's quite ok (just see payday fell when it was meant to this week in some consolation, but there is nothing like giving up your rights I guess!?)0

Just about all worker/employee are entitled to holiday pay
Stat accrual 12.07%0
