How do I find out what I am paying - old car loan?

In 1993 I took out a loan for a car - I could not afford it when I got it and was in a dark place spending money I did not have because I was ill. However, the short of it is that after 5 months it was repossessed, and, I went through some paperwork a few years back and realised that I was still paying a repayment amount to a credit collection company as the car was sold for much less than was outstanding. There could also be PPI on there too.

I wrote to the company and gave them my new address information and asked for details of the loan and I got no reply.

However they do send me the odd letter as the date of the payment obviously crosses when they are expecting the money - but they never respond to my letters when I ask for details, or settlement or to get it paid. It just goes on and on. It;s just a 'you have 7 days to pay or we will take legal action, ignore if the payment has been sent' letter.

It's £3 a month, a stupid amount, but because of this I have just let it run on. It does not seem to have affected my credit at all, but I want to get it sorted out. I am worried if I stop paying they'll take me to court and damage my credit score so I did not bother doing anything about it for the sake of £3 a month but we are trying to get our paperwork in order and I need to sort this out.

Please can you tell me how I find out who I am paying and what I am paying for. Thanks.

You could write a letter requesting any information eg a copy the contract, a subject access request might get what you want, a template can be found here https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/personal-information/.

It also tells you what to do if they don't respond.

Re the PPI write a letter asking if there was any included, from experience there was a link on the appropriate lenders page fro claiming any PPI.
