Calling all dog owners

Hi lovlies

I have a large labrador who loves to drink and run amound the house. He runs round the house anyway but when he has a drink he leaves a Hansel and Gretel trail for us all to follow.

So my question is, do you guys have any tips or tricks, for the area around the bowl where most of the excess water is or for any other inventive ideas that I've not thought about.

Or any other tips and tricks for dog owners?

I'm also going to disinfect the back yard where he has his morning wee as it gets whiffy, especially when the warmer weather comes. Any thoughts on cleaning this?

TIA

    Snap! little girl golden lab.
She has a food station. I bought it from QVC years ago.
It is plastic, has the x2 dish holes. High sides and back. any water spill goes into the under tray. It is cream and coffee colour.

Treats are given outside the back door as she is a mesy eater, lots of crumbs.

When we had our black lab - sadly passed away now - he used to drink his water then stand there with water dripping out of his chops!

I got him a huge deep crock bowl which he couldn't move around and I had a selection of old bath towels which I changed every day. I do a doggy wash of their bedding and rub down towels weekly anyway. This toweling trick seemed to stop allot of the water going around and I also kept an old hand towel near as well just in case he slopped it elsewhere so it was easy to get at it.

You need to change these towels at least every other day, if not every day though otherwise they will get a musty odour.

You want to see how much a cocker can trail around the house, not just the mouthful but two ears full as well lol

His water bowl is outside in the garden. Big old washing up bowl. The mouthful of water has usually all slopped out time he's back to the back door. He does have a water bowl in the kitchen but only drinks from that at night if he needs too. That and his food bowl sit on a towel

This is great, just what I was hoping for. Common sense but sometimes needs to be verbalised! Thanks as always.

Haha reminds me of my spaniel who doesn't seem to drink his last mouthful just lets it trickle out from the utility through to the kitchen! Starts to dunk his head in the bowl in the summer which makes it even worse!

Ours has her bowls for food and water an a b and q value doormat. Doesn't stop the water trail round the house though as she wanders off and if she is ready for a trim, her little beard drips (miniature poodle!)

it's a bit of depth you need, we fixed that problem by using a plastic pail & found our dog takes his head out of it more carefully so the water drips back in before he moves away

I have other peoples' dogs to stay with me, and they bring their own dishes, so I get a variety of messy eaters/drinkers.

The current guest, a Labradoodle, is happy for me to wipe her face when she's either had a drink or been snuffling in the grass, but I've had Labrador dribblers, Cocker Spaniel ear-dippers, and even a Border Collie salivating mightily at the smell of our dinner cooking.:rotfl:
