Good Friday is technically a bank holiday in Northern Ireland whereas Easter Tuesday is not. But yes, a lot of people get the Tuesday off instead of the Friday.0 -
Friday and Monday are Bank Holidays in NI. It has always been so.0

I think you mean public holiday rather than bank holiday.
Not sure why it ever became that way here. Though i can see the merit from a business perspective - particularly those that open on a saturday normally.0 -
Monday and Tuesday were the normal Easter holiday here (for the engineering trade at least), the South, I believe, took Friday and Monday. It has changed here due to the demise of large engineering sites, the number of businesses operating both sides of the border and wanting consistency, also the haulage industry was a big factor. It's been a gradual change and now, like the change to metric, is a dogs dinner.0

Would make sense.
Most manufacturing places and trades only work till 12:30/1:00 on a Friday so having a Friday Holiday would technically only be like getting a half day whereas a Tuesday off would be a full day...0 -

Nothing so cynical! The company I worked for had a mirror operation in Dublin and it made sense to synchronise the holidays. Mind you, we didn't get their Saints days!0 -
It's very confusing with the Public/Bank Holidays up here, I have to admit. Especially as a foreigner. Where I come from it either is a public Holiday (i.e. pretty much everything is closed) or it is not a public Holiday (i.e. everything is open).
Banks here are closed on Friday, and I would have thought that in turn all public Services are. But actually not all Public Services are closed, as my wife has a passport Interview in Belfast on Friday morning.0 -

Welcome to the madhouse. Sit down, relax and enjoy the party.0
