What's the best way to pay when buying in euros.

Hi all,

I'm wanting to buy something from amazon.de in euros as it works out much cheaper than buying from the uk. What's the best way to pay from an exchange point of view? I've heard that paypal is a bad way to go. Is it better to use my bank account or a credit card?

Thanks

Have you taken into account any vat charges etc? http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/common/buying_online/buying_goods/within_eu_en.htm
My bank doesn't charge for Euro debit card payments, call your bank and ask what, if any charges they will make.

Vat at whatever country rate is included in all Amazon eu prices.

You need to check with your bank for charges - my credit card only charges the Visa spot rate for purchases (that is, no fees at all), whereas my debit card has a loading of 2% for purchases but only charges the spot rate for euro cash withdrawals.

Even if its not sold by Amazon and its a third party seller?

Use Halifax Clarity or Nationwide Select credit cards. I purchased some cycle spares from Holland a few days ago as well as some camping vouchers last year. In both cases the transactions are very similar to those in the UK. The cost will appear on your card in due course using the commercial exchange rate at the time of purchase. Both cards have no loading charges.

Thanks, my partner has a Halifax clarity card so I'll use that to pay. Looked at using my debit card but it looks like my nationwide account would charge me for the privilege. No thanks.
