If yuo have already received the £300 I would write back saying that you accept their goodwill gesture as just that, a goodwill gesture, but only in partial settlement. I'm assuming that they credited the money to your account at the same time as offering it. They are trying it on...naughty, naughty Halifax!!! They are trying to have their cake and eat it.

If yu said the same to them, i.e. here is £500 in F&F of my £5K debt to you they would cash the £500 and still pursue you for the rest.

    What's sauce for the goose......
    2013 TARGET £30k
    2012 £26500 paid off.
    2011 £22750 paid off
    2010 £19800 paid off
    2009 MBNA Cleared 25.09.09 £34391.33 PAID OFF

so....about 3 mths ago i started proceedings to claim back charges of approx 700£ from halifax..........

after about a 6 week wait we had an offer of '' goodwill '' of 300 which we accepted

however today 6th aug we recieved a ltter from the bank saying we can let them have that back if we choose as ..........the courts are now taking on these charges etc etc..- it all in the papers as we know - and we may or may not get more at the the end of all the court cases.

and wait for the corts to decide about all the bank charges...........etc etc

( we r not taking them to court as yet as we have had some money back from them )

    so........

do we let them have the money back ?? and await there trials ????

here is a a copy of what i would like to send back to them...what do u think ???

In response to your letter dated 2nd August 2007
We refer to our complaint about bank charges and gladly accept you offer of goodwill to our account - against charges to our account.
however we will not sign any forms to accept this as a ‘full and final offer’ as we believe the charges are unfair and hopefully this will prove true with the office of fair trading in there investigations.
We thank you for registering and storing our complaint
as thy are reuesting we accept this as a full and final offer

    I would write:

In response to your letter dated 2nd August 2007
We refer to our claim for refund of bank charges debited from our account and accept your offer of a goodwill credit of £xxx to our account as partial settlement of this claim.
We do not feel that this is an acceptable ‘full and final offer’ as we believe the charges we have incurred are unfair and unlawful.
We will therefore continue to pursue a full refund of these charges plus interest as previously advised.
