O/S Daily Tuesday 31st March 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning Everyone
The weather has calmed down this morning, last night was really rough, hope you are all safe, warm and dry.
Came home from work yesterday, cleaned the kitchen (even mopped the floor) the the builder arrived with another plasterer for a quote but he was horribly expensive. Once he had left I started to make dinner (chicken leg and stir fry veg with oyster sauce), made onion marmalade, ate dinner and then my Aunt phoned. Finished the phone call at about 9.30 so decided to go to bed!
Judi - Happy Anniversary for yesterday.
Butterfly Brain, what terrible service you are getting from the medical world.
HH - How's the eye?
LW, hope you are ok, not heard from you for a while.
Hugs to anyone not feeling so good today.
Got some photos from DD yesterday, she seems to be having a blast. 3 more days to the holiday! Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, cloudy but dry and very windy here – wind has been gale force most of the night and woke me at 3am, haven’t really slept properly since.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. Both boys still asleep in their pits. I’m just having a peaceful cuppa and brekkie. DS2 is going to his friends’ house today and his mum is coming to collect him this morning, so he asked me to get him up so he can get a shower and dressed before she gets here, will do that shortly.
Dinner last night was HM egg, mushroom and pea fried rice with chicken pieces and Hunters style sauce for those that wanted some. Tonight we’ll be using up the LO’s from Sundays roast, but there’s not really enough meat to go round, but have just remembered I have some cook from frozen Lincolnshire sausages in the freezer so I’ll cook some of those, I’ll have those and none of the LO meat, menfolk can chose or have some of each – will just need to do a pan of mash, some carrots, green beans and gravy.
Yesterday work was busy, we somehow managed although we didn’t get a break in the morning at all, only to dash to the loo between customers, but in the afternoon I made sure others got a break and I did get chance for a quick cuppa. Working at the other office today on the telephones, have no idea if it will be as busy as the shop or not but at least you can get respite there and you don’t have customers approach you as soon as the last customer gets up from your desk! The day absolutely flew by though, couldn’t believe when I looked at my watch and it was 3.50pm – we shut at 4pm – although we very often still have customers with us and we have to finish off with them.
Looking forward to getting today out of the way then working just until lunchtime tomorrow and then off until next Tuesday.
Keep safe and well x

March winds doth blow
And we shall have snow
What will the robin do then
Poor thing
Good morning,
Well I think Scotland's winds have now reached the Midlands. It has been an horrendous night. I hate the wind, the felt is hanging off the shed roof.
We were going shopping, but have decided not to now.
Going out this evening , meeting up with girls I worked with to celebrate friends 70th birthday. I hope the weather has improved by then.
I am sure there must be debris on the roads so stay safe everyone, it is April tomorrow, so hopefully a calmer month

Morning one and all. What a night! Gales battering us all night and this morning wheelie bins and rubbish all over the place! Not helped as today is collection day and most folk had put their bins out on the pavement last night!
The other GPs are taking our 3 DGDs to Blackpool today. Oh I don't envy them in this weather. Sadly their plans can't be changed as they bought tickets for the Pleasure Beach in advance with today's date on. The wind is forecast all day so let's hope the promised showers don't last long.
We had a stressful day over at the caravan yesterday, not helped because it was so cold and windy. The tv aerial had managed to shift since we set it up last week and took ages to find signal again. It was two steps forward and one back with every job we had planned. Eventually the blooming gas whiff to sort. We couldn't find the source of it so ended up taking the gas hose off altogether and going to the nearest supplier for a replacement length. Hallelujah, problem solved, so there was obviously a tiny hole in it we couldn't see. We finally left for home around 5.00, just as the heaven's opened. Driving back over the Blubberhouses in torrential rain isn't much fun!
Was I glad I'd left the stew cooking in the sc as we were ravenous by the time we eventually got home. There's enough left for today too so that saves cooking for one meal at least.
Not much planned for today just general "pottering". I think we have earned an easy day after yesterday's stresses!
Have a good day all and take care if out in the rain and gales. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all,
Windy night here too but not as bad as some of you by the sounds of it take care everyone.
Have woken with a horrible sore throat, can hardly swallow, will take some tablets in a while and see if that helps.
Off to work today and we have some piglets visiting the site, so no cars allowed on site after 9.30 this morning, apparently they are very cute, I expect we will be packed today.
Summer in winter chicken for dinner tonight with some pasta, so a nice simple meal. Will need to do a wash tonight too.
An early night for me I think.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone
Another one here who didn't sleep because of the wind, it was terrible, howling down the chimney and whistling through the gaps in the windows. I'm planning a nice long nanna nap later to make up for it. It's still quite windy now but seems to have died down a bit. Next door's tarpaulin they had nailed to their shed roof has disappeared. Definitely a day to stay indoors and catch up on some house work
.
Well my visit to the doctors was absolutely fine. I don't know why I tie myself up in knots about it. He is so lovely and very happy for me to cope with my condition how I want. I'm going to speak to a psychiatrist to discuss my options re medication but it looks as if I'm pretty much at the end of the line for it as I've tried most things. I have been offered a stay in hospital for treatment with another drug but I am not keen at all. At the moment I feel ok and as long as I have a CPN to talk to I think I will be fine.
I have a small shop being delivered this morning as we are going through bread and milk at a rate of knots. I will get the girls up to help put it away and see what their plans are if any. I've taken out some sausages for lunch and DD15 is cooking tea tonight. We are going to be having steak pie with baby potatoes and green beans. DD12 really wants to do some baking as well so I will let her loose in the kitchen later on.
That's all my waffle for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone.
Another blustery wild night here with a yellow warning in place for the whole day. Will only venture out to drive up to the holiday cottage where my visitors are, they'll need more wood I expect!
I expect it to be a day of reading / knitting / watching the weather.
Hope everyone has a good dsy.0 -
Morning :hello:
The wind was horrendous here too, I was expecting damaged fences etc. but it all seems OK.
My hip was aching a bit yesterday, I just thought I'd overdone it a bit but by teatime all my joints were aching. My head is pounding and I have a horrible cough. I've just dosed myself up with cold and flu tablets, hopefully by the time they start working and I've had a shower I'll feel a bit more human.
I hardly slept last night so will just be pottering about today, only doing essential things. Everything else can wait. Walks will still happen, I'll have to force myself out the door

Morning All
Well we are back home, wind and rain to welcome us I see.
I have to be honest, didn't hear the wind in the night, in true DG fashion, once asleep nothing usually wakes me.

. Really lucky as both DGuy and Skye Snore!!
I have a few niggly ailments, which I want sorting, nothing you can class as serious, so got up and started ringing at 8am, got through about 10 past and managed to get the last appointment with my GP.
. I am really lucky, great GP (Spanish) who you can talk to, good relations with reception staff, and a great service from Asda Chemists.
Need to really tackle the unpacking today, in control of the 2 months post now, and did a Aldi food shop yesterday, asked DNeice in law to get me a couple of papers last Thursday. So used one set of coupons, and will be going again before or on Thursday.
. Also saw the GNeice and smallest GNephew GNeice 12 took Skye a long walk while we went to Aldi, think she was looking for mates or boys, and Skye gave her a good excuse.:eek: Skye loved the walk though. Brought quite a few clothes back, as not doing our May/June trip this year so need more summer clothes here. Not back until Octobr time (unless the weather isn't summery, then we may change our minds)
Sorry if I have missed a little of what is going on recently, it had been a little different this time, not much time to organise things for then Community, the loss of a friend from the UK, who was out there, and his funeral still to come. It wasn't that we were that close but very unexpected. So belated birthday and anniversary wishes to those I may have missed.
RR & Tru. Sorry to hear you are not 100%, Scampi sounds treat Tru.
TA. Gas hoses have a quite limited life, and sometimes have the date of expiry on these days, they go porous, so changing every couple of years if recommended. I as going to suggest that yesterday, but didn't get chance to post.
Gers enjoy your "retirement". You will shortly wonder how on earth you had the time to work!
HH. Hope the eyesight is back this morning, and the treatment wasn't too bad.
LW. Skye sends you a big lick, and my size 8's are ready if needed!
Enough waffle, ((hugs)), spoons, and positive vibes all round, take care everyone. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0
