Halifax Remortgaging

Options
Hi All

My wife and I have a mortgage with the Halifax and have been on their standard variable rate since feb 2010 - 3.99%, we have had a quote for remortgaging with them for a fixed rate of 2.89% but our application has been unsuccesful. They have said that the issue is that Mrs Webdesigner will be borrowing into retirement.

We have been to Santander, Nationwide and had a full review by London and Country - none have can find/offer us a remortgage.

So we feel a trapped on this SVR.

Mrs W has 14 years term available which we have been restricted by, I have 23 years until retirement age but the banks will not let us take advantage of this. I have also enquired about taking out a sole mortgage and having legal documentation written up so Mrs W has joint ownership, but this won't fit with any of the banks criteria.

Can anyone think where I could go next with this? The key facts are that we can afford mortgage payments but it seems that we don't fit the profile that banks lend to.

Any guidance would be appreciated.
