council tax banding

Hi

MY son lives in a house containing two flats with a shared hall but own front doors.

According to the council tax bill he is paying the same as if the house was one house and one house occupency.

Should the council tax be split between the two flats??? or should each pay the full amount.

I spoke to the council who were unable to assist even in general terms

THanks

Ian

Are the council even aware that the property has been converted to flats ?
    They must be (PP)
Does your son know whether the other tenant is paying council tax as well ?

    HI

Haven't got a clue but would assume the council do as letters are addressed to flat 1

    cheers

Have you checked the local council website - to see what council tax band, they rate the property at ?
You can check here as well http://cti.voa.gov.uk/cti/inits.asp
You can challenge it through that website.
