They will also keep for a few days at least in a tin or plastic box.

We have made quite a few flap jacks which are lovely. I was wondering if anyone knows how long they keep and if you can freeze them (thought it would be nice to pop the odd one in my girls school lunch boxes every so often).

    Thanks for any replies.

    175g Butter or Marg
175g Demerara sugar ( not sure if i've spelt that right)
    2 tablespoons of golden syrup
225g porridge oats (we used Tesco Value ones that i use for my breakfast)

Line a shallow baking tin (7 inch x 11 inch) with grease proof paper.

    Pre-heat oven Gas 3 (160C, 325F)

Melt butter sugar and syrup slowly. Stir to ensure it doesn't burn.

Take off heat and stir in oats until fully coated.

Press in to tin with the back of a metal spoon.

Bake for 25 mins or until golden brown.

Leave to cool for 5 mins then cut while still warm then leave to cool completely (if you can resist not eating them).

    Tips:-

Make sure to lick the golden syrup spoon after you have finished using it as it will remind you of being a child again.

Eat as many flapjacks as possible without once thinking of your figure as they are lovely.

Get the kids to make it as they will enjoy it and its simple.

I've just made a huge try of flapjacks and i was wondering how long will they last?? and what is the best way of storing them??
  • If they are nice flapjacks they should last only slightly longer than it takes for your kids to find them! :D Seriously - storage wise, I would put a sheet of kitchen paper in the bottom of a suitably sized airtight box and lay them in there.

    Hi leiela,

They never last very long here but you can store them in an airtight container for about a week or they freeze well if you want to keep them for longer.

There's an earlier thread that may help:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the replies together.

I make a weeks supply every Sunday, wrap each days supply in cling film and store in the fridge. Never had any problems with them.
