European train travel

Options
Which rail site is likely to give the most accurate price?

Looked at rail Europe which is quoting £60 but the country's own rail site says nearer £30.

Would the countries own site be more likely to be correct?

I just want a ball park figure as we won't decide until the day if we're travelling or not, but am slightly confused by the huge difference.

    Yes

Rail Europe tend to only sell full price tickets often with a markup

The country's own site will have no markup (maybe a small booking fee) - and may also offer advance tickets - which it sounds as though you don't want

Just make sure you are making the right comparisons

    Ok thanks dzug1.

I think I compared like for like, but as we past thru central station on arrival I'll see if there are any ticket machines. And I'll try to get a price then.
We might not even do the journey so definitely do not want to buy in advance.

The journey btw is Copenhagen central to Malmo. As it's different countries the Danish rail site won't allow me to buy in advance anyway. And if it's £60 as rail Europe suggests, we'll find something else to do and spend our money on!!!!!

Just checking for tomorrow and it looks like the Swedish rail website will sell you 2nd class tickets at 107SEK per person each way.
That's around £17 return per person.

Have a look at this Seat61 webpage on how to use the swedish rail website to buy on the day and collect your tickets from Copenhagen station.
Seat 61 also explains that agency sellers' prices will be higher.

Was the Danish trains site I looked at.
The journey from Copenhagen to Malmo is supposed to be a good one, so was something we'd like to do if we have time.

Just checked seat61 for the trains to malmo, and he states....
Frequent Öresund trains run from Copenhagen to Malmö, no reservation necessary or possible, just turn up, buy a ticket and hop on the next one.

    The Danish train site http://www.dsb.dk/om-dsb/in-english/

Using that journey planner, say can't quote a fare but links to a another similar site.
    http://www.rejseplanen.dk/eu-bin/query.exe/en?seqnr=2&ident=dw.030675179.1427722400&euMode=ORESUND&ml=m&OK#focus
Which states is 144dkk for a family pass, 5 passenger's max two adults, which covers us. That's single, so about £15 each way?

Beginning to think it'll be easier to just stay in Copenhagen and find stuff to do lol

    Yes, I believe it is.

    Seat61 say:
These trains use the Öresund Link, a massive bridge and tunnel between Denmark & Sweden. It's like flying a hundred feet above the sea, quite an experience...

We can afford it at £30, but £60 is chomping into our budget a bit too much.

So we arrive in Copenhagen mid morning and we're getting the train into Copenhagen central straight away. But can't get into accommodation until 3pm. So will have plenty of time to have a look at ticket machine and see what the actual cost is.

Seems like the most sensible plan I think?

I was going to suggest The Man In Seat 61 website like Wealdroam: I think he runs it more as a hobby now, so it may not always be 100% up-to-date.
