My post seems to have triggered this part of the debate. My numbers are factual. I record my meter readings each month. I therefore know how much gas I use over the summer just for hot water. Don't forget the losses in the unlagged pipework. So, the numbers I quoted are as accurate as you can get and the 1200kWh is over 20 months, not 12.

Without walking the 4 yards to the iboost or the 2 yards to my files I can't give you exact figures :D, but I had the unit fitted at cost at time of installation for £200. The net result is that I don't use my boiler (or any gas) for 7 months of the year. As I also have a wood burner my total annual gas cost (DHW/heating) is around £80 for a 3-bed terrace, and it is worth my while to go for a high unit cost but no standing charge tariff.

My savings would be greater if I were not a single person household and used more hot water: the tank was hot by early afternoon and from then on was exporting more.

Oh go on, I'll go and check: total unit savings since installation in mid-August 2013, 1632 kwh.

I believe that they'll measure export, but I don't think there is any requirement to use the information for payment of the export element, yet.

Further to nigelpm's reply, I haven't been able to find anything on this yet either. I'm going to give the Energy Saving Trust and British Gas a call to see if they can advise.

I believe our house is already fitted with a smart meter that supports export monitoring so it would obviously be good to know before ordering our PV system with/without the iBoost.

The iBoost allows you to set on/off times and...
The Solar iBoost intelligently controls the amount of energy fed into the immersion heater using information from the sender. It adjusts the energy flow to the immersion heater as your home consumption varies ensuring that only excess power is used
... but, once the iBoost has diverted enough electricity to heat your water tank to the required temperature I'm presuming any further excess is exported back to the grid?
