    Hi Ceridwen,

I've just been getting into Kefir and got mine through an exchange site. Google 'kefir exchange' and you should get a UK one (I'm in France so got mine from here). In exchange for a self-addressed envelope I got about half a teaspoon of dried grains. I used this site to help me understand what to do.

It took a while to get the grains started again, partially because I was also changing them from cow's milk to goat's milk but the half teaspoon is now about 2 tablespoons of grains, after about 2 months.

The kefir is a bit sharp but I quite like that, if you like it sweeter you can add honey/fruit puree or do as sugested above and make smoothies.

I think there are exchanges for kombucha too.

    Hope this helps.
