For anyone who lives in a warm flat or house or is concerned about a hot summer this 12000 btu air conditioner on Amazon seems like a good deal.
Trotec are a German company who also sell on ebay and have overwhelmingly good feedback. The dispatch time is listed as 3 - 5 weeks so I guess they are ordering them from China if they get enough orders.
This is from the Trotec website:
High cooling capacity –
immediately ready for operation
Energy efficiency category A
Timer function for switch-on/-off time
Thermostat control with real-value temperature selection
Adjustable air discharge direction
IR remote control
Three fan stages
Suitable for rooms to a size of 115 m³
Control electronics with digital operating display
Integrated dehumidifier function
Compact design and minimum storage space
Removable air filter.

The unit was reviewed by a German home magazine "Selber Machen" in 2012 and came third out of seven air conditioners. You might need to translate the page but their comments were:
"Positives:
High cooling capacity.
Miscellaneous equipment for exhaust hose.
Very appealing design.
Working range up to 35 ° C.
Airflow direction horizontally adjustable
Negatives:
High airflow in all fan speeds.
Remote control does not display.
No automatic mode fan speed. "
For anyone interested but concerned about returning the item, I think that it is despatched from Germany. If you have to return it to Germany the seller is obliged to pay return postage under Amazon marketplace rules. If the seller refused then Amazon would cover any expenses. If however it is a UK returns address I think you would have to pay.
From the Amazon returns policy: "If you order from a Marketplace Seller who dispatches from a location outside the UK you should be aware that Amazon’s return policy requires that international Marketplace Sellers either (1) provide a return address within the UK, (2) pay return postage costs or (3) provide a pre-paid return label. If a Seller doesn’t abide by this policy on an order you returned you can file an A-to-z Guarantee claim."
Anyway 12000 btu seems like a good deal for a new unit at that price. I had a 9000btu last summer and it would barely cool the front room down.
