NHS pension after mums death.

My mum died very recently from cancer. She was a midwife but retired in 1993. We have yet to contact NHS pensions department as we have so much paperwork to sort. As mum was a widow does her pension just stop or will there be any benefits paid to her estate ? She has no dependants. Thanks for any advice.

You really need to contact them for information, I have an NHS pension and my husband is my nominated person to receive a Death Gratuity and survivors pension as far as I understand it.. it will depend on the circumstances and whether your Mum nomiated someone to receive this.

If there are no dependent children 23 or under, I think it stops with her.

Unless the death gratuity can be paid, but as the spouse is no longer with us then I think not.

I am afraid you will need to contact them, inform them of her death (so they stop payments) and ask them then.

And you also need to call DWP and get her SP stopped too.

If you used the Tell Us Once service when the death was registered, the DWP will have been informed.
