I use a CD player - Tascam CD 112 - with manufactured CD's quite OK

However when I use a CD with downloaded tracks on some play OK, some not at all, some stop midtrack....

Is this an issue with my player, the CD or what ?

How are you producing the CD - as a standard audio CD or as a data CD?

Some CD players will play MP3 files others won't. Some downloads are designed to only play on the target devices.

Where do the downloads come from? A reputable source or some random torrent?

They are not my CD's so I don't know how they are poo roduced ; the player is MP3.

If they are produced as a data Recording. Would they play at all ?

The MP3's might contain frame encoding errors that the CD player can't cope with, common if they are old rips and VBR (variable bit rate).

Edit: are you sure it's a Tascam and not one of these:

Tascam, Monacor and Stageline are all the same unit - made by TEAC

Yeah the only Tascam 112 I could find was a tape deck.

You could try checking the MP3s for errors and fix them using something like this:

Or just open them in something like GOLDWAVE and save a new copy?

You are recoding the MP3 again through lame losing a bit of quality, the other method doesn't recode the stream.

Would there be any problems if I were to use a Memory Stick or SD card instead of the CD ?

Shouldn't be any issues as long as you follow the correct format (fat 32 I think) and the MP3s are in order, I don't know how fussy that particular unit is over it's MP3's. Check the manual.

If you get any MP3s that won't play use the program I suggested earlier and look at the attributes and see if there is a reason why they won't.
