I remember using them all the time back in the 80s when I moved to London. My TV died on me and I could have spent £50 on a B&W portable telly (that was very affordable back then.
However as a penniless student, I remembered I had a portable telly back in Glasgow, and I spent a weekend getting the bus on a 900- mile round trip to bring back my telly for £18 (which was £13.50 with a student discount). Plus in those days they gave you a cooked airline dinner (called a "stagecoach feedbag").
Life was amazingly affordable back then.:DThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
