Just had electricity bill through. £9549.09 since December.

Eon are in the process of sorting this. But this was because of a glitch in the estimation. Their system calculated it had done an entire cycle on the dials.

Seems the computer has gremlins But even so, if I wasn't savvy it would have given me a heart attack. If this happenned to my grandfather he would have keeled over. Worth checking vulnerable relatives... hope it was a one off!!

Blimey! That's some mistake. Really sorry about this morrit. To be honest, I'm not aware of issues with estimated bills so don't think it's widespread. Will double check next week just to be sure. Glad we're sorting it though.

  • Generally estimations are provided by a third party, unusual to see them so far off though.

The CS chap was a bit confused. I think he was expecting me to fly off the handle. Was more concerned about dd payments sky rocketing and the inevitable dd charges etc etc but all well that ends well.

....Their system calculated it had done an entire cycle on the dials ? !

Is this a 'Dial' meter that has a series of clocks, each of which has a single pointer
If so, these are notorious for mis-reads, even by Meter Readers, and is well past it's 'Use By Date' - Put pressure on Eon to change it a.s.a.p

Nothing to do with a dial meter or misread afaics - it was an automatic over-estimate followed by an actual read less than the estimate.

No need to replace a solid, reliable analogue-dial meter with a flimsy new piece of trash.

This is what the chap told me it might have been. Personally I think computer glitch. It's my first quarterly statement with them.

the meter is a cylinder dial And it was an estimate based on when they first had a reading. I dont mind estimates as long as they are within reason!!

The new bill has come through all well and good. Maybe this is their way of making sure they get a meter reading... It's bloody effective!!

    Hi morrit

Thanks for being so reasonable. As you've just joined us I suspect the monthly payments will be ok. Although we review payment arrangements quarterly, we'll only change them at the mid-term and annual reviews. At the other times, if necessary, we'll recommend a change but leave it up to you to make any alterations. If you've registered with our website, you can take more control over payments through the Direct Debit Manager. This includes making changes to the amount. Comes in handy should circumstances change.

Provided the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, you can change the payments by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings. Before putting the change through, we'll let you know by how much we anticipate the account will be in credit/debit if the new amount is confirmed but usage doesn't alter accordingly.

Hope this is of interest morrit and sorry again for our mistake.

Hey. Thanks for the detailed reply. Interesting to know. I was more concerned about it hitting the doormat of a less techno savvy type person who instantly knows where to go etc. Computers will make a glitch now and then and being a new customer as well is too much coincidence so just a minor error really. Sorted nice and quickly.
