Just wondering on the consensus here on fee and non fee Brokers.
The most obvious choice is London and Country which seem popular and has decent reviews.
However others are also not bad such as Which? mortgage brokers, however they charge 500 pounds on completion in total

I would suggest a third option would be a local independent advisor.
This would get my vote, subject to their fees being sensibleI am a Mortgage Adviser

Although very different service to a local broker. However others are also not bad such as Which? mortgage brokers, however they charge 500 pounds on completion in total
Again, a different service to a local broker.
Local one would get my vote as you are able to drop things in or they can collect and you get more hand holding. Plus, you can view their research and see the information more readily.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Have a search on this forum, there views vary massively. Some sing their praises others do not even have their calls/emails answered.
I can only speak from the brokers side of the fence - I do charge, the reason I charge is that I limit the amount of work I take on. It means I can spend more time dedicated to each case rather than pile it high and sell it cheap.
But I realise that I will lose some cases on the basis that I am a fee charging broker.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Silly question, how does one look for a local broker?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

go to google and put Mortgage Broker in ....... (your town or city?)
there is also a website called unbiased.co.uk - you need to untick sponsored listings otherwise it will limit the brokers you see.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. What would be sensible fee range? I have seen 0-1800 pounds"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Also use word of mouth, do you know anyone that has moved or re-mortgaged lately? Might be worth asking them.
I'm using a fee free local broker he does no advertising and gets all his clients from recommendations.0 -

I wouldn't suggest what a fair upper limit is, if you pay £1800 just make sure you know exactly what you are getting.

Having a look around of local brokers, on the plus side, yea they would be easier to get hold of, especially in person, however it's difficult to ascertain how good they are at their job given the lack of review websites for those.
In comparison to online only, obviously they have been reviewed by a fair few.
Is it worth it the local brokers?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
