Cashback on rail tickets: eBookers?

I have just noticed that eBookers are currently offering 2 per cent cashback on UK rail tickets via TopCashBack. Does anyone know whether they offer the same selection of relatively cheap fares as the TOCs themselves? If so, this would seem to be a fairly good deal.

    From the Ebookers site:
"Best For Business – Economy class on rail is as comfortable as business class in air travel, it is easy to use your smartphone / iPad / laptop the whole journey with wi-fi connectivity, plus there is much greater space to work. Travel in business class comfort at economy class prices with rail."

So why didn't I notice the flat seats on my last rail journey?
  • I visited the ebookers.com web site but could only find 'UK Rail' on the top banner when I went in via the 'Affiliates' page. Selecting 'UK Rail' then resulted in the message:

    "Making improvements

Was anyone else able to use?

East Midlands Trains pay 0.5-1.25% cashback via Greasypalm on rail tickets bought online and you can buy any tickets (perhaps with the exception of e-tickets) that different operators sell.

Unfortunately, your experience is not uncommon. It has been highlighted on many occasions by consumer organisations, such as Which, that ticket offices often are unaware of the full range of tickets available. For this reason, it is always preferable, if at all possible, to buy your ticket on line. If South Eastern Trains are deliberately charging the higher fares to push people into using the high speed services into St. Pancras, then your complaint to Watchdog etc. is justified.
