need help, lost card advice!

hi guys, friday night the dreaded happened, my bank card and drivers licence were stolen. At first I'd thought they'd simply fallen out of my bag but thinking on it I don't understand how they could have and why nothing else fell out? But at the same time I don't know when someone could have gotten into my bag as I had it with me all night.

Anyway, I've cancelled my bank card but am worried about the licence. Obviously it has my address, dob, signature etc on it and I'm really worried about what someone can do with all that information. The dvla is closed so I can't contact them until tomo morning. I suppose there is no point in taking out a credit report as yet as if anything has been done it won't show straight away?

It seems like a total kick in the head right now, I'd not long cleared my debts and started sorting things out and now I might be in a lot of trouble all over again. Any help and advice you can give would be much appreciated.

    Hi Lynsayjane,
Sorry to hear your news, have you told the police too? this could help if anyone tries to open accounts in your name.
I think it's really quite easy for folks to do this as you would be relaxed and not on guard when out with your friends not watching too carefully - these days we're all too busy watching our drinks!

GRRR just typed a reply and lost it! Basically though, saying what has been said above - if your credit report is mucked up through this, it will be easier to get it put right if you have a police record of it.

Hugs in the absence of anything else positive from me coming your way xx

thanks hun, thats where I found the number to call them but it's shut on sundays.

hypno, thanks for the hugs it's appreciated. In the attempts to work out what happened to my card I tried to talk to a couple of cops on the street (not helpful at all!) and my firend then started raging at me that I'd left her, she wouldn't listen while I tried to explain to her what was going on and continued to shout, ended up telling her to 'f' off. now she's not talking to me and it's her I'm supposed to be going on holiday with! argh

Oh LJ I am so sorry about this.

I think in this day & ages of identity fraud (for all sorts of reasons) I would be calling the police to see if they have any advice and of course, be straight on the phone the DVLA tomorrow.

After that, I guess you have to just check credit reports as soon as sensible - luckily Martin has provided ways to do it free!

Really sorry though to hear this.

Hopefully calling the police station will be more helpful than those bobbies who probably didn't know the answers and didn't have books & leaflets to hand to refer to!

Your friend will calm down.....don't forget she will be panicking about the holiday too so will be looking to reconcile things with you.

wouldn't be so sure, I've text her twice and gotten no response. Her flatmate told me not to worry about it so I'm trying to take her advice.

It's still early days....give it a couple of days, she *will* have read the texts but just wants to come around on 'her' terms. Some people are like that!
