I have cut out most of the processed stuff with the exception of an ocassional treat. But still I am the same weight even though I am under my allocated calories!
Go figure!
And with my chronic, I often need a boost, like the fruit juice I mentioned. I have tried things like bananas and nuts and oatcakes to give me a 'hit', but they just don't always cut it!0 -

And then there is what works for you - however odd that may seem to other people. Hopefully you can find someone who will work with you to find what suits you - rather than the general good and bad foods you can get from the internet or books.
This I think is probably the truth. I have always thought I am doing things wrong when my stomach gurgles and swells when eating foods full of fibre, even though they're the good things.
It makes sense that I need an individual approach and that is why I wanted to consult with someone who could help find a good, overall approach taking jnto consideration all of my illnesses and the interaction between them all - along with the effect that that has on my day to day life.
Thanks again all!0 -
Why not ask for a referral back to your consultant?0

Why not ask for a referral back to your consultant?
Not sure which consultant you refer to but I have only seen one at the Chronic fatigue clinic. I am still under the care of this but will be seeing an occupational therapist for regular appts to help learn how to manage my energy levels.
I think the consultant for this reviews in a few months time but he doesn't really give any specific dietary advice except the general 'cut out rubbish' which we are all aware of!0 -
I write from an alternative perspective........I have a long and complicated medical history that has left me with only a tiny part of my stomach and I am now primarily fed with a feeding tube direct into my bowel. I am under the care of a dietician at my hospital and her 'job' is to help me increase my calories. I currently only weight 43kg and am considered to be malnourished. Now, as nice as she is, she clearly knows nothing about conditions such as mine - she constantly tells me just to eat biscuits when I can, add sugar to my drinks etc etc in order to increase calories. This, however, works against my other conditions and makes my blood sugar drop and I faint. I saved up and saw a private dietician who was absolutely amazing. She understood ALL my problems and came up with a diet plan that worked with and for me. I think most NHS dieticians are just trained in a set way and heaven help anyone who has problems outside of those guidelines!0

If its a weight issue, the advice from the NHS ones will be eat less, do more.
The private ones, eat less, do more with bells and whistles and a bill to pay, and oh you are allergic to dairy and lactose (they tell everyone this).I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Ask an NHS dietitian for help with an eating plan and they'll be stumped.0
