But, arguably, if you didn't have a huge pension pot (say >£400k) but enough to spread around several providers, you could keep your investments at <£50k per provider and be perfectly safe.
Also, I presume, you could use percentage based providers to keep the costs down as opposed to having to use a flat fee provider with lots in it (at potential risk).
Of course, it would probably be quite a pain having multiple logins and balancing investments when spread across multiple companies.0
