Woolwich Mortgages Don't Know If I'm Coming or Going

Options
More of a rant and a way to blow off steam as I am fuming

Contacted Woolwich on the 23rd Feb to inform them my mum passed away (very sudden wasn't expected) as we had a joint mortgage with them.

They advised nothing to worry about they would freeze all payments on both parts for 12 months to give me time to get the insurance payout processed and to get everything in order.

On the 16th March they took a payment from my account for the addidtional borrowing part of the mortgage I called to query and was told that I never should have been told the payments can be frozen instead I have to pay the full amount by myself!

They then told me in the branch that this wasn't true and that I didn't have to make payments that the account would seem to be in arrears but at no detrement to myself and no fees or marks on credit record as it would be "in house"

I have now been told by the specialist complaint team that I DO need to make the payments. I was told if I can't afford this then I can go on a repayment plan but that will mess up my credit file for the next 6 years

How can a bank get something that they deal with every day so messed up I'm so annoyed with them right now.

I have until next week to pay what I am behind already which is 1 month (thankfully I got a bonus last payday which will clear this so paying this today) now just have to find £450 by end of April and onwards until payout is done

I can only surmise the Woolwich thought your mother was the sole mortgage holder and provided the wrong information. As you held a joint mortgage the responsibility to maintain payment passes to you. I would chase your insurance provider for a very quick pay out.

I could understand that if I wasn't the lead name on the mortgage and they went through my DPA first

Just can't believe they can something so simple so fundementally wrong and then only give me a week to get it sorted

Sorry to hear of your sudden loss. So understand the frustration. The lender is not responsible for the management of your personal finances. You should consider defaulting on other financial obligations before the mortgage. The mortgage is a joint liability. Who else is named on the mortgage. As sounds as if there others.

I know their not responsible but if they had told me the correct info 4 weeks ago I wouldn't be in this situation :(

It was just me & my mum so it all falls on me which as I said had I know this a month ago it wouldn't make it so difficult

Thing is if I default on other things my credit rating will still be sent down the swanny

Just wish they had told me the correct info to start with and give me some assistance instead of just saying yeah we got it wrong now it's up to you to sort we can't do anything
