    When they check for deposit, they don't check for the ability to cover legal fees - although may ask if they are coming out of the deposit fund (thereby reducing the actual deposit for the house). Those need to be accounted for however.

    Regardless of whether it's "allowed" in terms of ways to get around it, putting fees of that amount onto a credit card when you are already entering into a major borrowing commitment without fully knowing monthly expenditure, is irresponsible.

    If you have to settle the balance with the solicitor between exchange and completion and go to pay on credit card, then they notify your lender (as they work for both you and the lender), one could enter into rather a sticky situation.

    I don't know the ins and outs but it certainly wouldn't occur to me to pay legal fees using credit. Unfortunately fees are expensive but they are simply another thing to be saving for when buying.
