Does anyone have any more thoughts on this for me?

I am starting to think my best way forward is to get a residential mortgage in the 2 months i'm back in the UK, then in a few months (maybe 6 months plus), start investigating with my mortgage provider to 'consent to let'.

The question is, with only 2 months in the UK will that be enough time to secure a flat and mortgage, with completion? I know it's ambitious but hope it will be doable...

I won't be coming on your cruise ship anytime soon and sitting in with your band.

Neither should you be trying to work this out yourself.
    I am a Mortgage Broker

I am of course going to use a mortgage broker, I just wanted to hear some opinions from you lovely people on this board before I make that step..

The bank will see that you work on a cruise ship. This should not preclude you from owning a home. But they may not take it well when a few months later you ask for consent to let while your circumstances have not changed one bit.

Why are you worried about a buy to let mortgage?

It's the fact that long term (in around 1-2 years time) I will want to live in this flat pretty much full time. I want to get into the housing market asap as prices simply keep rising. Being able to let the property out whilst away from the UK is more of a bonus than anything else.

    .

The nature of your employment is bound to raise questions.

Given you live with your parents when home. You might as well keep saving and one day buy for cash.

You might be better of getting a place you can get a lodger,

That probably won't be a lucrative as AST but will get you on the ladder and cover some of the costs.

Another option is to keep saving and look when you are ready to do shorter ship contracts ,

buying undoes some of the benefits of ship life no expenses and the opportunity to travel in the time off rather than come home to the UK.
