Going Bankrupt shortly…Help with bank accounts

Help!

I'm going bankrupt very soon, I have a number of basic bank accounts. I'm currently claiming benefits which gets paid into one of my accounts, this particular account I have listed that on the Bankruptcy Petition.

I have 4 basic bank accounts, I don't mind at least 3 been closed but I do need one.

I've called one bank anonymously and they advised the account will be frozen pending the terms of the bankruptcy. I do need to live and concerned my benefits will be frozen in long winded drawn out process between the Insolvency Departments and the Banks. I should be at some point starting a new job as well, but not for another month or so and already provided them with my bank details..

What should I do?

Also could my partner set up a basic bank account under her name and give me the debit card? Basically I need access to my funds.

Please help urgent help required.

Who are the accounts with? If you have a coop cashminder or Barclays basic account, your accounts will be fine.

Lloyds Bank - Although never used the account since I found out they are related to Halifax who i owe money too.

    Santander

    Natwest x2 basic bank accounts

CO-OP refused my basic bank account application recently

  • Open a Barclays CashCard account (as that won't be closed if you go bankrupt) and then phone the benefits people and give them your Barclays account details and get them to send your benefits there instead.

Those accounts are likely to be closed, barclays is your best option :)

My barclays account didn't get frozen, they just shut off my internet and telephone banking.

    Thanks.

Should I set up the bank account before or after I attend court?

I'd get everything critical moved over to a barclays account prior to you going bankrupt, the barclays basic cash account will continue functioning throughout the process.

If you are worried though, take out enough money to survive on for a few days when you do file for bankruptcy.

I possibly still owe Barclays money from 3-5 years a go, chances are something will come up on their system?

I did attend one branch yesterday but they informed me i needed to book an appointment even though it was first thing in morning 8 staff was standing their with hands in pocket (next appointment April). So have booked in at another branch tomorrow which is 15 miles away.

I'm due to go bankrupt Monday. Doubt I will receive my bank details before then, should I not say on my petition papers?

The account will open straight away, you'll be given the account number and sort code before you leave the branch :) the card and pin come a few days later.

They may say something, but if you explain what's happening with going bankrupt on Monday they should proceed with opening the account then. If not, just make an appointment to open an account after you've gone bankrupt.

You can also get a FFrees account which doesn't perform any credit checks and can do standing orders and tops up via pay point. Wages and benefits can be paid into the account too, it's bankrupt friendly :) charges apply for cash withdrawls though and it's all managed online. So that's another option if you have any problems with barclays :)
